Kenidy Hutchins
Born in 2004 in Kansas, Kenidy Hutchins grew up in an Army family, moving often before settling in Shawnee, Oklahoma in 2015 when his mother retired from military service. Surrounded by a wide variety of music throughout his childhood, Kenidy developed a deep appreciation for rhythm and sound that naturally led him to join the school band in sixth grade. After experimenting with several instruments, he discovered his true voice in the clarinet, an instrument that felt like an extension of his own breath and expression.
Dedicated to refining his craft, Kenidy began traveling for private instruction with profession musicians, including Dr. Carter, a Selmer Clarinet Artist. Under their mentorship, his musicianship flourished. During this time, he transitioned from the cherished family clarinet, played by four generation before him, to his first professional instrument, symbolizing both growth and commitment to his art.
Over time, Kenidy expanded his musical horizons, mastering multiple woodwind instruments including saxophone and flute, among others. This versatility has allowed him to perform comfortably across genres, from jazz ensembles to symphonic orchestras and philharmonic bands, demonstrating both technical skills and expressive artistry.
Kenidy’s passion and discipline led to numerous accomplishments during his high school years, including performances in competitions and honor bands, most notably the prestigious OKYO Youth Philharmonic in Oklahoma City. His achievements earned his a full-ride scholarship to Oklahoma Baptist University, where he began his formal educational training.
Eager to challenge himself further, Kenidy later transferred to Oklahoma City University, known as the “Juilliard of the Midwest". There, as a student in the Wanda L. Bass School of Music, he continues to grow as both a performer and an educator. Kenidy regularly performs in collegiate and community ensembles and teaches private clarinet lessons, sharing his passion for musical technique, tone, and storytelling.
He is currently preparing for his Junior Recital, scheduled for February of 2026, at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music, a milestone performance that reflects his dedication, versatility, and lifelong devotion to music.
